Welcome to Hinderman's Rabbits!
The Blanc de Hotot breed is still very young and is still developing. The original Standard Blanc de Hotots arrived in the United States in 1978. The whole breed originated from 8 original imported rabbits. Naturally other breeds are crossbred with Standard Blanc de Hotots to decrease inbreeding. The out crossing really helps increase vigor, fertility, size, and confirmation but increases the probability of having sports and throw backs in later generations.
The breed is listed as "threatened" by the American Livestock Conservancy, so hopefully those who are really passionate about Blanc de Hotots will work to preserve them as a breed.
SPORT - This is an all white rabbit with a stray black spot. The ARBA standard of perfection states the only black coat color on a Standard Blanc de Hotot should be located around the eye bands of each eye. The most common place you will find black coat color on a sport is along the ears, a stripe along the back or black spot on tip of nose.
THROWBACKS- Breeders usually refer to a kit in a litter that has reverted back to the color of one of the original rabbit breeds used to develop the Standard Blanc de Hotots. Since so many breeds were used to develop the Standard Blanc de Hotot breed, it is not uncommon to see throw backs in litters from purebred parents. Common throw backs are charlie (harlequin in appearance- quite rare)and piebald (like a large Dutch with silverish rear legs and upper back.

Nice fur and nice head. I can't wait until he is ready to sire offspring! He has no eye spots or freckles. He did develop a pin hole sized black spot on the base of his ear, it was not there when he was born so I think he injured himself. When the skin of the ear is damaged the hair grows back black.

Standard Full Blooded Doe
Dam: Grapevine's Delux
Mancelona is a full blood Standard Blanc de Hotot. She has good type, and is not too bad over her front shoulder. She has a nice full hind quarter and strong loin. She also has a great head & perfectly textured fur. She is also the only doe I ever produced from Delux and Washington. Their litters have been all bucks.Mancelona is the 85th ARBA Convention Best of Breed Blanc de Hotot! If you can fit three fingers between the nape of the neck and the rise of the front shoulder should cull any offspring that do not pass the three fingers rule. Three fingers before the shoulder begins to rise means the rabbit is leaning toward having mandoline body structure which is a DQ. Blanc de Hotots should have commercial bodies so the rise of the shoulder should start directly behind the nape of the neck. This is something I believe we need to watch with the breed.

Grapevine's "Jazz"

Standard Outcross Doe
Dam: Grapevine's Thing
Jazz is an outcross and is 1/4 New Zealand. Jazz is a great mother, she raised 2 litters at the same time! She is a little out of condition right now. She has nice eye bands and would benefit from being used with a buck with thick bold eye bands. Her offspring tend to have light thin eye bands.

Standard Buck
Sire: Hinderman's Oscoda
Dam: Richard's Twist
I love the full loin and hind quarter on Nevada. He has a nice front shoulder and nice fur. He lacks some of the guard hairs, but he has the right texture. I can't wait to see what his babies will look like, I'm expecting a litter from him and Yakima who is a satin outcross.
Hinderman's Gizela

Standard Full blooded Doe
Dam: Kurz 1929
Gizela has nice dark eye bands. She has nice fur and a good front shoulder. You can see the longer guard hairs of the German import father. Thank you Bob Wilkinson for letting your buck breed my doe. She could use a better rump, but I think she can still fill out more. I am interested to see what she develops into. She's a nice plump little doe.
Hughley's Santa Rosa

Standard Full blooded Doe
Dam: Hughley's E
Santa Rosa is an intermediate doe from Freddie Hugley in California. I am so glad to have made the trip to California and to pick up some fresh blood from Freddie's rabbits. Santa Rosa has a long strong body with great fur. I love her frosty sheen and I can't wait to see what she is able to produce with the German import bloodlines!

Standard Buck
Dam: Kurz 1929
I love his commercial body! He has an awesome front shoulder, strong loin, and a firm full rump. I am really happy to see what he grows into. He will give strength and fullness to weaker frail bodied Blanc de Hotots. I like his head and nice eye bands.

Standard Doe
Dam: Clark's Apollo
Kennewick is a great buck from Bob and Cheryl Wilkinson in Kennewick Washington. I love Kennewick's dark thick deep rich black eye bands. He has a nice front shoulder and great fur! He is from Bob and Cheryl's Satin outcross line, Kennewick is 1/4 Satin. I am interested to see how he will do with my Californian outcross line! My own Californianoutcross with Michele Sauerwein's New Zealand outcross has produced some of the best commercial Blanc de Hotots in the history of the breed. I get great standard marked babies, I just have to watch for eye spots and freckles. In the F3 generation, I see awesome commercial bodies with freckles but no eye spots!

Standard Buck
Dam: DC's Inga
Haschen is 50% German Import! I can't wait to see what Haschen's offspring will look like, he has really grown into a nice buck. I can see the frosty sheen to his coat, he has no eye spots or freckles. You can see the density and texture of his fur in very nice, a big Thank you to Bob Wilkinson to trading me for this great addition to the Blanc de Hotot breed.

Yakima is a great doe from Bob and Cheryl Wilkinson from Kennewick Washington. She is an doe from Bob and Cheryl's outcross Satin line, she is 1/4 Satin. She has a white spot in her eye, but she will make a great brood doe. I plan to use Oscoda and Dakota on her. I am excited to see the potential of future generations of this cross!
Clark's "Ted"

Standard Buck
Sire: Clark's Apollo
Dam: Grapevine's Jazz
Hinderman's "Theta"

Sport Outcross Doe
Sire: Sigma
Dam: Reds 1590
Theta has a great front shoulder and a nice fur! She is only 1/32 Blanc de Hotot and she is nearly standard marked. She is agouti unfortunately that can be carried by REW New Zealand. I love to frosty sheen to Theta's coat, so I am keeping her to see the fur quality of her litters! She will be a good doe to play around with in my attempts to improve the fur quality of the Blanc de Hotot.
